I was thinking what defined agony… sadness, pain, the angst of having to wait for that one day – a moment of hope and fulfillment or satisfaction of accomplishment… I asked my friends and some defined agony as losing someone you love, losing a child… others mentioned a tooth ache, stepping on a lego (lol), and natural child birth. All good and accurate definitions. So I sat here with my pen in hand and thought… with all those suggestions in mind, what does my heart define as agony? From my personal experience of losing a best-friend to suicide, a sudden distance between me and my siblings and the unexpected passing of my brother – I had to choose ‘loss of a loved one’. That is pure agony for me, to have an unexpected loss :'( . Combined with that experience, I could only imagine losing a child would be the hardest, so this is what I decided to sketch for today’s Drawing Challenge topic:

To all who can relate, I give you the warmest-tightest hug ♥

About the Artist

I’m an artist, author, and poet. My work is often shaped by lived experiences and by paying close attention to the world around me… nature, and the people who have helped shape my life.

I usually paint first, and the words come later. Painting has been the safest way I’ve found to be honest about things that are hard to say out loud, and over time I’ve noticed other people finding their own stories in the work too.

My paintings are meant to comfort, to feel like a presence rather than a statement, and to give space for each person to find their own meaning. The connection that happens there matters most to me.
