When I first began on my journey as a professional artist or ‘serious’ artist, back in High School, I was introduced to a technique I called ‘SmokeBrush’. The paint is acrylic mixed with graphite layered on with an Iwata airbrush gun, ideally on a CS10 illustration board, or a smooth clayboard. SOoooo fun! I’d love to get back into traditional art like this, and plan to once we move into a bigger place where I have the room to get messy with it. With airbrushing – you end up getting paint all over the walls. It’s best to have plenty of ventilation and walls that you’re able to live with having all sorts of different shades of colors on. 🙂

With all that said, enjoy my gallery of SmokeBrush art!

About the Artist

I’m an artist, author, and poet. My work is often shaped by lived experiences and by paying close attention to the world around me… nature, and the people who have helped shape my life.

I usually paint first, and the words come later. Painting has been the safest way I’ve found to be honest about things that are hard to say out loud, and over time I’ve noticed other people finding their own stories in the work too.

My paintings are meant to comfort, to feel like a presence rather than a statement, and to give space for each person to find their own meaning. The connection that happens there matters most to me.
