Expect the Unexpected – Walter Bishop – Fringe Art

Fringe is currently running its fifth and final season. My husband Clark and I just began the series a few weeks ago and we’re hooked! I asked the question on Twitter “OK #fringefans, I am just starting to watch #fringe, what should I expect?” and the most common reply I got was “Expect the unexpected!”. That is SO true! My absolute favorite character on the show, who always makes me laugh is Walter Bishop. He is so funny, he is so weird and bizarre. I want to know him personally! I would LOVE to know a ‘crazy’ guy like him who is smart, loves his sweets, gets uber excited over the smallest of discoveries. I love his character! So, for all you fellow Fringe fans, this painting is for you. It’s my interpretation of the Fringe character, Walter Bishop in all his silly-smart glory. I’m an artist, author, and poet. My work is often shaped by lived experiences and by paying close attention to the world around me… nature, and the people who have helped shape my life.

I usually paint first, and the words come later. Painting has been the safest way I’ve found to be honest about things that are hard to say out loud, and over time I’ve noticed other people finding their own stories in the work too.

My paintings are meant to comfort, to feel like a presence rather than a statement, and to give space for each person to find their own meaning. The connection that happens there matters most to me.
