StarWars Fan Art: The Not So Dark Side

With the upcoming new StarWars movie, Episode VII scheduled to be released December 2015, I thought I’d create some fan art for the StarWars fans out there. I grew up watching the movies, and I am SO excited for the new movie!!!

The concept behind this painting, is that Luke and Princess Leia never knew that their father was Darth Vader (until later in life). What if they did, or what if they had spent some time with him when they were younger? Perhaps there is or was a not so dark side to Darth Vader that nobody sees. 🙂 Maybe he is simply misunderstood? To go a little deeper into that thought, there are fathers out there that appear rough around the edges, and they too may have a not so dark side to them when it comes to their little ones.

I usually paint first, and the words come later. Painting has been the safest way I’ve found to be honest about things that are hard to say out loud, and over time I’ve noticed other people finding their own stories in the work too.

My paintings are meant to comfort, to feel like a presence rather than a statement, and to give space for each person to find their own meaning. The connection that happens there matters most to me.
