As an artist, many of us feel so passionate about what we do we would LOVE to create art for everyone for free. To think about pricing is one of our great anxieties. It’s hard to put a price on what we’d do for free if that were realistic, when trying to make a living doing what we love, knowing what we love also brings joy & comfort to others.
This is why sketch challenges are rewarding for artists, because it allows us the freedom to actually do what we love, share that with others, without the worry of setting a price. 🙂 So this month I’ll be taking a break from commissions, and focus on this sketch challenge exclusively.
This month I’d like to invite others to participate as I share the topic for the day. I’ll post the topic on Facebook, and anyone who’d like to comment with a photo of theirs that matches the topic, I *might* select theirs for the inspiration reference for the sketch that day!
Here are some helpful guidelines for this challenge:
- I’ll share a topic, you can add ONE image (the clearer with details, the better!) in a comment with a description of why that photo is meaningful to you and how it matches the topic. Depending on how many add their photos will be how random the selection is. If you’re the only one who does, lucky you! lol 🙂 If there are several who do, the pick will be more random. I’ll try my best to be as fair and as random as possible so everyone has a chance to have their image selected for a sketch. If there are many to choose from, just know that I truly wish I had the ability to choose everyone!
- The practice exercise for me is to be quick with these sketches, so they won’t be like commissions where I’d work on the art piece with you until it’s ‘perfect’ to us both. This sketch will turn out however I feel inspired to do something within a days time, with the time I have available that day. It’s meant to be random & fun. If you like how it turns out & you’d like a print made of it – DM me and I’ll help you with a print order (the print would not have the watermark). Or you are free to right-click and save the image I share to social media (watermark intact) to your computer/phone, share on social media to your friends and family. 🙂
- Please share just ONE photo per topic.

Important stuff to keep in mind:
- When you share your photo on Facebook, your photo will be public. That’s out of my control. I may also reshare the photo to show the side by side reference vs artwork.
- When I create a sketch using your photo for reference, the sketch I create may be appealing to others who’d also like print of it. When you share your image for an inspirational reference for my sketch for the day, I will be creating the sketch for you & for others to enjoy. That means they may also save the artwork digitally, or request a print of the artwork. I may also choose to make the sketch available for print on my Society6 art store or other places for purchase.
- The artwork I create for my sketch a day is not like the private commissions I create. It’s a collaborative art activity where others, at random, can have a chance to have an image of theirs turned into an original art piece (I will retain full rights©). Please try to keep in mind the image you share will be public, the art created from its reference may also be made available for purchase to the public. Choose your image wisely with that in mind.
